Ksenia Afanasyeva

Ksenia Afanasyeva has proved yet again that she is 2010s comeback queen, winning the Russian Youth Spartakiada held in a Moldovan Republic town called Saransk.  IG reported;

Afanasyeva took her second victory in a month, having won the Japan Cup in Tokyo in early July. The 17 year old defeated training mate Ksenia Semyonova during the two-day all-around competition, with 2010 European vault champion Yekaterina Kurbatova placing third.
"Ksenia Afanasyeva competed very smoothly and steadily," national coach Valentina Rodionenko reported. "However, on the second day of competition, Ksenia Semyonova outscored her [by 1.100]. We can say that Marina Nazarova's gymnasts are getting stronger and are likely to contend for the Russian Cup title.
You can read the article Here.  Question...I thought Ksenia was older- like nineteen?  Or did she just qualify to Beijing?

  1. She was born in September of 1991, so she's almost nineteen. The article must have got it wrong.

  2. Ah I love her!!! She's my favorite right now, hands down. So glad she's back and better than ever =)

  3. Good for her! I´m happy to see her do well...
    On a second note, those scores have got to be beyond else would Semy get a 14.450 on VT (outscoring Afan??) and a 15.100 on FX?? (I wish the numbers were for real though, I love Semy and her floor).

  4. Yeah, Ksenia is 18 and 3/4. Get it together IG. I expect great things from her @ Worlds!

  5. The scores at domestic Russian meets are always high; they use a bonus system for certain skills. That would explain Afanasyeva's 15.5 on floor. She's good, but not that good. She could totally get onto the podium at this years Worlds if she fixes up her bar routine. That's hands down her weak event.

  6. Has anyone seen any videos of this competition pop up? I would love to watch it...

  7. yes I would like to watch videos of this as well, can't wait for the russian cup!
